
Email List FAQs

As with most things, there is more than one way to 'talk to' the email list to perform activities such as joining or leaving the list, changing the settings of your subscription (eg to 'suspend mail' when on vacation, change between 'individual message,' 'Index' and 'Digest' versions of the list). The two main methods of changing your list settings are to (1) send a command to the APA list server or (2) choose the option on the email list web page. Many people find it more 'intuitive' or convenient to use the second method, but we provide both options here.
Using the email list web page
The web address for the Division 42 email list is http://listserve.apa.org/archives/div42.html. If you click that link you will go to the APA server that hosts the list.
- Once there, select the 'Subscriber's Corner' option
- Follow the instructions from there to change any of the settings you want to change
- You can search the archives of the list at that same web address

1. How do I sign on to the list?
Send a message to div42apa@cox.net. In the body of the message put only your first and last name, indicate whether you are a Division 42 member, and what your APA number is.
2. I lost my copy of the Welcome Message. How can I get another?
The Welcome Message may be found HERE.
3. What is the digest format of the list?
The digest format sends all of the messages from a single day in one email.
4. How do I change to digest format from individual messages?
Send a message to listserv@LISTS.APA.ORG. In the body of the email type: set Div42 digest
5. What is the Index version of the list?
Index version sends just the header information for all of the messages each day in one email. It contains the senders name, subject, date and time, etc. If you want a particular message, you must then request it from the list.
6. How do I change to Index version?
Send a message to listserv@LISTS.APA.ORG. In the body of the email type: set Div42 index
7. How do I temporarily suspend my mail when I’m on vacation?
Send a message to listserv@LISTS.APA.ORG. In the body of the message type: set div42 nomail
8. How do I resume mail when I return?
Send a message to listserv@LISTS.APA.ORG. In the body of the message type: set div42 mail
9. Can I find the names of others who are on the list?
Send a message to listserv@LISTS.APA.ORG. In the body of the message type: scan div42.
10. How do I search the list archives?
Send a message to listserv@LISTS.APA.ORG.
In the body of the message type: search div42 word1 <word2>
search listname word1 <word2 <...>> Search list archives
or: word1 <word2 <...>> IN listname

TODAY -> From today
