The Student and Early Career Psychologist Committee hosted another virtual learning hour on Friday, June 17th. 2016.
We were honored to have Dr. Peter Kanaris hosting the call with us on the topic of sex therapy. The topic included how to gain experience in sex therapy; therapeutic considerations; as well as ethical and legal issues when working with couples and individuals seeking treatment.
About Peter S. Kanaris, Ph.D.
Dr. Kanaris holds a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. He is a N.Y.S. licensed psychologist and the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists certify him as a Diplomate of Sex Therapy. He is a graduate Post-Doctoral Fellow of the Albert Ellis Institute in NYC where he served as a senior clinician, training supervisor and faculty member.
He has presented to the Suffolk County, New York State and American Psychological Associations and has been published in Professional Psychology Research and Practice. He has taught Sex Therapy to professionals through the Suffolk County Department of Health and regularly supervises colleagues.
Dr. Kanaris has served as the Public Education Campaign Coordinator for New York State Psychological Association. In this capacity, he has been the featured guest on many live interviews and call-in television and radio programs where he has discussed a variety of topics on relationships and sexuality. He is frequently interviewed for newspaper, magazine and internet articles on sexual topics. He was also the subject of a podcasts presenting sex therapy to the public.
